Archaeology and History
The Kidron Valley is one of Jerusalem's locales, due to its location between the Temple Mount and the Mount of Olives. Many olive trees have recently been brought here to restore the ancient landscape. The Kidron also has the earliest tombs in this vast cemetery, which is still used: Zechariah's Tomb, named after a First Temple priest, the Tomb of the Sons of Hezir, a Second Temple-era priestly family, and Absalom's Tomb, named after David's son. A walk that takes in all the monuments begins at a lookout plaza near the southeastern corner of the city wall.
