Israel's current official presidential residence was constructed while Zalman Shazar served as the third President of Israel. Aba Elhanani (1918-2000), one of Israel's leading architects, won a competition and was selected to design the building. The residence and garden are adorned with artwork created by Jewish and Israeli artists. The Presidential Residence comprises three wings:
the official and ceremonial wing, the offices and chambers, and the residential wing. The garden outside the building is used to host special events. The greenery in the garden was carefully selected to represent Israel's characteristic flora, including olive trees, cypress and oak trees.
