National Sites, Archaeology and History
Beit Eshel was one of the first three observatories in the Negev and symbolized the beginning of pioneering settlement in the region.
When the Egyptians shelled the Negev during the War of Independence, the settlement was destroyed, and remnants of the walls, guard posts, communication channels and some of the stone buildings with arches remained. Beit Eshel was declared a national site on 19/7/1985.
The site is located within the Be'er Sheva Stream Park and as part of the development work in the park, its remains have been restored and its remains will be reopened soon.
