Track of Beer - Lemon

The Route:

Be'er Limon is located west of Moshav Yishai. Access to the site passes through the moshav, crosses it to the west and connects to a dirt road adjacent to citrus groves. 2.5 kilometers later turn left and continue in a forest. In the winter months, the forest is filled with blossoms of Cyclamen and anemones.

Be'er Lemon was built two thousand years ago in the Roman period, and above it, the Crusaders built a structure of large ashlar stones about 7 meters high.

A baseless legend that went on among the Bedouin diaspora said that the site contained a stash of gold, which brought groups of antiquities robbers to search for the treasure.

In 2012, a group of antiquities robbers who had been operating at the site for several nights was caught with digging tools, hammers and heavy lifting equipment. They broke the walls of the well, dug into the well and crushed the ancient stones. They dug deep pits in the archaeological layers and caused irreparable damage to the building.

How to get there?

Using WAZE, write Moshav Yishai, drive westward to the traffic circle near the grocery store, turn left there and continue until you reach the end of the moshav, turn left onto a dirt road and drive west about 2.5 km adjacent to the orchards of Clementine trees. Turn left to the dirt road until reaching a destroyed stone building, park the vehicle on the side of the road.
