Archaeology and History
The centerpiece of Old Jaffa is Kedumim Square, where the archaeological dig beneath the square has been turned into a visitors center, leaving the square itself as a pleasant place to stroll, shop, and in summer, enjoy the Jaffa Nights festival.
Jaffa Tales - The Old Jaffa Visitors Center tells the ancient city's 4,000-year-old story using state-of-the art techniques. These include a unique archeological display on the dock of the port, a Jaffa timeline, and a walking tour among the antiquities along a floating bridge.
An animated film recounts the myth of Andromeda and a dynamic display on a 16-meter-long screen traces the city's history by illustrating important periods and events that took place there - the conquest of Jaffa by the Egyptians 3,500 years ago, the story of the Prophet Jonah who tried to flee from God, the spread of Christianity that began in Jaffa, the Ottoman administration, the wars and the reconstruction. Guided tours of the site can be arranged. The two film presentations are available in seven languages: Hebrew, English, Arabic, Russian, Chinese, Spanish, French and German.
